A lot of people instantly said the season was done.
Indeed, it’s hard to see how the Mavericks come back from this.
They were already fighting hard without Davis and the other injured players.
But with Irving out, their chances of making the postseason get even smaller.

Of course, all of this comes just a month after the Mavericks lost Luka Doncic in a stunning trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Everyone agrees that was the worst moment of the season for the Mavs, but this Irving injury is definitely second.

Others looked for a silver lining, like the fact that Max Christie will now get more minutes on the floor.
He might not be able to carry them to the playoffs, but Christie can enhance his game and get more comfortable leading.
Atleast Max Christie now has a position to shine for the rest of the season as the potential #1 scoring option for the Mavericks

There was already speculation about what the Mavericks will do in the summer and this Irving injury will create more rumors.
Will they angle to acquire a big name, such as Kevin Durant?
They might want to do whatever it takes to put this troubled and traumatic season behind them.
The Mavericks may be very busy in the offseason, especially now that Irving is out and their postseason hopes are dwindling.
